The meeting will also mean the start of a demanding January, in which the Whites could play up to 9 games in two different competitions. There is the doubleheader in the Copa against Numancia and two LaLiga clashes, against Celta and Valencia away, and Villarreal and Deportivo, in the Bernabéu. If they get through the knockout round of the Cup, the quarter-final would also be played in January. In the last week of the month, the semi-finals will also take place if Real Madrid reached that round.

The Copa del Rey is back and we are really looking forward to it and hope we can get through this round”, Zidane revealed, saying that Real Madrid’s visit to Soria has the utmost expectation around it. Numancia goes into the game after overcoming Oviedo and Sporting in the preliminary rounds, before beating Malaga in the last-32. The team led by Jagoba Arrasate have also gone five official matches unbeaten and the season is really taking shape.

The team from Soria is the second best at home in the Second Division, fifth in the league and just four points off Huesca, the league leaders. The experienced Manu del Moral and Guillermo Fernandez are, with five goals, the top scorers of the team captained by the former Madridista Julio Álvarez, who will be out injured.

Although both teams have met eight times in official competition, it will be the first time they face each other in the Copa del Rey. All of the prior meetings came in LaLiga. The balance is favourable for the Whites: 6 wins, one draw and just one defeat. The last time that Real Madrid and Numancia went head-to-head was nine years ago, in January 2009. The match took place in Los Pajaritos. The Whites clinched a win (0-2).
