FC Pune City vs NorthEast United FC: Player Ratings
Pune City went out on a rampage as they faced off-clour NorthEast United. The Highlanders are struggling for form and their performance against the Stallions was one to forget. Northeast manager De Deus has claimed his frustration about the team’s finishing and the performances, especially from the foreigners. The Stallions dominated the game from the kickoff whistle and kept the hold until the final minute.
So we here at LNTUP, are looking at the performances of the players who featured in the match:
FC Pune City
Vishal Kaith (8/10): The 21-year old goalkeeper who has played for the national team in junior levels was exceptional between the sticks. Kaith made a lot of saves and some were world-class, to be honest. That gliding header from Cezario which had a goal written all over it was denied by the full stretched former Lajong goalkeeper.
Sarthak Golui (7.5/10): This Bengal born defender is impressing every day he gets on the pitch and has been manager Popovic’s first choice. Sarthak,20, has been very solid at the back helping teammates Gurtej and Chhuntea to keep the attackers at bay.
Gurtej Singh 7/10: One of the silent warriors in the team, Gurtej has been influential for this Pune City side. Gurtej was good with his clearances and did not allow Cezario and Marcinho time on the ball in Pune final third.
Rafael Lopez 7/10: He was good with his distribution from the back which laid the foundation for the Pune City attacks. Whenever he got chance he drilled the ball forward to the wings and hence was important to connect defence with midfield and attack.
Lalchhuanmawia Fanai 6.5/10: He had an above average match but was not standout like some of his team members. He lost possession a few times and had his fair share of troubles containing Seminlen Doungel. But he was good going forward as he helped his fellow midfielders.
Marcos Tebar (7.5/10): Tebar the man sitting right in front of the Pune defence was calmly operation his team’s run of play. Covering up on the loose balls defensively and feeding midfielders and forwards with his long passes, Tebar did it all.
Adil Khan (7.5/10): The former Churchill Brothers man is on fire for Pune City this season. He controls the midfield with his precision passing and physicality. He also got on the scoresheet with a low calm finishing taking his tally to 3 goals this season.
Jonatan Lucca (8/10): Pune City’s midfield maestro tonight, he was linking up with Marcelinho at times and even Alfaro and his inch-perfect passing and vision created a lot of chances for the Stallions.
Ashique Kuruniyan (8.5/10): What a lad!! The 20-year old Kerala born winger was standout among the Indian players on the field today. Dribbled passed 2-3 defenders numerous times and also scored a goal. He is definitely one for the future and his deft touches and amazing dribbling caught the eye of each and every spectator.
Marcelinho (9.5/10): The Hero of the match tonight. The Brazilian controlled the passes in midfield and made forward runs when required. His freekick was exceptional and one from the top drawer. Marcelinho’s link up play with Alfaro and Lucca and forming the South American trio Pune City looks formidable at the moment.
Emiliano Alfaro (7.5/10) Alfaro did not score any goal but his presence in the Pune forward was influential as he linked up with Marcelinho and Lucca and was like a nightmare for the Northeast defence.
Jewel Raja (6/10): Came in for Lucca and took time to settle in but it’s always difficult to come in and perform. But he made some good forward runs and missed a golden opportunity to get his name on the scoresheet.
Ravi Kumar NA: came in late in the dying minutes and didn’t make any impact.
Robertino (6.5/10): Replaced Marcelinho late in the game but he hardly had time to make an impact on a larger scale. He did manage to pull off some good passes in the midfield.
NorthEast United FC
TP Rehenesh (4/10): The former East Bengal goalie had a night to forget. He conceded five goals what more should one say about his performance! But the goals tally could have been more as Rehenesh was brave enough to come out of his line and gathered the ball from the fast advancing Alfaro.
Jose Goncalves (6/10) Goncalves was loose with his passing and could not manage with Pune City’s regular onslaughts. The 32-year old defender looked pretty ordinary as he was 2nd best to the 50-50 balls and could not contain Marcelinho and company.
Sambinha (6/10): DEspite his physicality, he was poor in defence, gave away possession way to many times and was beaten for pace by the Pune City players.
Abdul Hakku (6.5/10): The Kerala born defender was also below average and its nothing unnatural for everyone when they have at the scoreline. But still, the 23-year old defender managed to beat his man and went forward and helped Doungel on the flanks but was ineffective for a major part of the match.
Martin Diaz (5.5/10): Had a match to forget, he was completely dominated by the Pune City forwards. Diaz was second best in all aspect and had a tough time in containing the Pune forwards.
Reagan Singh 5/10: Was completely dominated by Ashique Kuruniyan as the 20-year muscled him out several times. Reagan was beaten by pace and physicality as well and he always ended up second best to Ashique.
Rowlin Borges (6.5/10): Tried his heart out but could find that perfect pass for his teammates. But the Goan medio’s performance looked far from convincing as the opponents ran riot.
Marcinho (7/10) If we try hard then we can find only one inspiring light. Although nothing exception Marcinho did pull out some passes from midfield and created chances for others. He also had a golden chance to get on the scoresheet early in the game but his shot was straight at Vishal Kaith.
Lalrindika Ralte (5/10): was replaced after the 1st half and did not manage to trouble the Pune City defence during his presence in the middle.
Malemgamba Meitei (5.5/10): Was very average throughout the match. He was contained well by Sarthak Golui as he could manage to get behind the Pune City defence.
Cezario (6/10): Did manage to get in behind the Pune City defence at times but couldn’t beat Vishal Kaith at goal. His powerful header forced an amazing save from the 21-year old goalie. But considering all the facts he was wasteful in front of goal.
Seminlen Doungel (6/10) Was beating Fanai in the flanks with his pace but the end product did not amaze anyone. Should have scored at least twice instead he wasted both the opportunities.
Gursimrat Singh NA: replaced Hakku and hardly had any impact on the game.
Odair Fortes (5/10) Came in for Martin Diaz and was ineffective. He was tightly held by the Pune City midfielders.
