El Clasico : Player Ratings
Player Ratings of the first El Clasico of the season
Barcelona cruised to victory in the season’s first El Clasico as Real Madrid imploded in the second half.
Luis Suarez opened the deadlock shortly after when the break overs. Leo Messi and Alex Vidal added one each to increase the humiliation.
Here is the player rating on both side, out of 10.
Keylor Navas – 6
Superhuman reflexes to tip over Paulinho’s fierce effort in the first half. But maybe this is not his day really.
Dani Carvajal – 2
The Protagonist behind the second goal of Barcelona. Dude, you are not the Goalkeeper! He was lucky enough to survive tripping Pique earlier.
Raphael Varane – 5
Today his speed did not help the team as Barcelona cut through the defence line like a knife.
Sergio Ramos – 4
Escaped with two fouls on Paulinho in the first half and then booked for a ‘no need’ foul to Suarez.
Marcelo – 5
The only wing player who was active throughout the match for the home side. But was ineffective due to the brilliance of Roberto.
Casemiro – 4
He was brilliant in the first half. But was dull in the second part as Barcelona ran amok and he did nothing. Well, he must learn better how to dive!
Luka Modric – 6
Excellent footwork. Mesmerising midfield work. The best among the home side players. He also confounded Vermaelen a booking.
Mateo Kovacic – 4
He was in the head-to-head position with Leo. A free role in midfield. But he could not contribute to the attacking ball.
Toni Kroos – 4
Really was not his day. This German maestro was invisible today.
Karim Benzema – 5
He tried his best. But still lacking the conversion rate. One header hit the post. Benzema is lacking his x-factor.
Cristiano Ronaldo – 5
When the ball kicked off, everybody thought it may be his day. His header goes offside. But after that, the Ballon d’Or went all off. He got the best chance in the match, all alone in the Barca box. But he missed!
Nacho – 5
Came too late in the field after Carvajal’s red card.
Marco Asensio – 4
Was he really on the field today? Well..
Gareth Bale – 6
His speed and energy was the key. Tested stegen for a couple of times. Why doesn’t he get chance earlier?
Marc-Andre Ter Stegen – 7
Smart saves came from him today including the Ronaldo’s sidekick in the first half. He really kept his nerve strong in the last phase if the game.
Sergi Roberto – 9
Valverde shows his trust over this midfielder playing him in the right back. And guess what, his assist in the first goal was the best moment of the match. He is becoming mature day by day.
Gerard Pique – 9
Sensational blocks all over the match including the Benzema’s clincher. Maybe his best performance in this season.
Thomas Vermaelen – 7
It was his first El Clasico. Though he was clumsy in beginning. But got the path in the second half and stayed strong.
Jordi Alba – 7
An excellent outlet in the wing attack. His backheel to Iniesta was one of the best moment of the match.
Sergio Busquets – 6
Apart from the pass which created the first goal, he was not really effective in the defensive play. Though with Iniesta, he created some magical moments in midfield.
Ivan Rakitic – 7
The man behind the first goal. His free run in the midfield broke the deadlock.
Paulinho – 8
A force throughout and has comprehensively proven his doubters wrong. Denied twice by Navas in the first El Clasico. This Brazilian nailed the show.
Andres Iniesta – 7
At times masterful but generally quiet until after the break, when he showed his true class to help Barcelona spin the game their way.
Lionel Messi – 8
He was quiet in the first half. But when he came to life, so did Barcelona. Two great passes to Paulinho and his 25th goal make him the ultimate centre boy of Barcelona.
Luis Suarez – 8
The scorer of the first goal. Clean finish it was. He was impressive, though was invisible in the first half.
Nelson Semedo – 4
Wasted a chance to increase the lead.
Andre Gomes – 5
Did not get much time to show any impact.
Alex Vidal – 6
Came on the stoppage time and managed to score the third one.
