Arsenal to replace Arsene Wenger with former Rangers star
Arsenal have earmarked former Rangers star to become their future manager, according to reports in London.
Arteta is currently working as assistant coach at runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City after becoming the first confirmed member of Pep Guardiola’s backroom team last summer.
Arteta rejected coaching offers from the Gunners and North London rivals Tottenham to join Pep Guardiola at City in 2016, Arteta completed his Uefa Pro Licence in September and is awaiting official confirmation of his final coaching badge.
The 35-year-old spent five years at Arsenal as a player, captaining the club for the final two of those years. It is believed that by the time Wenger’s Arsenal contract expires at the end of next season, Arteta will be experienced enough to be considered as next boss.
Thomas Tuchel, Leonardo Jardim and Carlo Ancelotti have been talked up as potential candidates if the net is cast wider.
