The 35-year-old spent five years at Arsenal as a player, captaining the club for the final two of those years. It is believed that by the time Wenger’s Arsenal contract expires at the end of next season, Arteta will be experienced enough to be considered as next boss.

Thomas Tuchel, Leonardo Jardim and Carlo Ancelotti have been talked up as potential candidates if the net is cast wider.
