AFC Congratulates UAE for success of FIFA Club World Cup
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has congratulated the United Arab Emirates on the successful hosting of the FIFA Club World Cup 2017, which concluded on Saturday when Real Madrid won the title by defeating Gremio of Brazil in the final.
Shaikh Salman stressed that this year’s FIFA Club World Cup benefited from the wonderful organisation, witnessed impressive attendances and a modern infrastructure, as well as great performances from the participating teams – all of which will leave an important legacy for world football.
The AFC President also pointed out that the event was a triumph for Asia as a whole, and that it reinforced the UAE’s reputation as an outstanding host of major international events.
Shaikh Salman also congratulated the UAE’s Al Jazira – who finished fourth at the FIFA Club World Cup – for their performances which further enhanced the reputation of football in both the UAE and Asia.
The UAE will also host the FIFA Club World Club in 2018 and the AFC Asian Cup in January 2019.
