Barcelona Likely To Win The Race In Signing Manchester United Superstar

Barcelona to pursue for United defender?

Barcelona have had a decent performance this season but their ageing squad may seem to hinder their performances in busy schedules. With news of Javier Mascherano leaving Camp Nou looking imminent in January and Umtiti being side lined with injury, the dailymail reports that Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde may look for other alternatives in the January transfer window and are reportedly preparing a shock bid for Manchester United defender Daley Blind in order to bolster their defence to cope with the Spanish League and the Champions League alike, not to forget a lot of domestic cup ties every now and then.

Blind’s versatility in being comfortable to play both in the centre and left of the back line will immensely help the Barca coach to lower his tensions regarding the back four. The 27 year old Dutchman has been left out of quite a lot of important matches at United and has certainly come down his present manager Jose Mourinho’s pecking order. He can also play effectively in the middle of the pitch which may come handy, given Gomes and Rakitic’s irregular form at Camp Nou this season. With Luke Shaw fit too, Mourinho may want to consider of letting go of Blind, who was brought in by his one-time comrade Louis Van Gaal in 2014 for a reported fee of $20 mil from his childhood club Ajax.

He has started just 4 out of the possible 17 matches in the Premier League, after losing out his place to Ashley Young at left wing back position. In the Champions League however, he has played in all the matches and even has an assist to his name. With his decreasing appearances a clear indication of his unwillingness to stay at the club and his contract running out next year in the summer, Barcelona may just sneak in and strike a profitable deal in the coming January transfer window.
