Bundesliga Match Review : Wolfsburg vs RB Leipzig
Leipzig held at Volkswagen Arena
RB Leipzig’s irregular season this year saw them salvage only a single point against a lacklustre Vfl Wolfsburg home side as the visitors slipped to the third spot in the Bundesliga league table after a stale 1-1. It is quite an alarming dip for the Leipzig side as they could only earn two points in their last three matches in the German top flight, let alone the fact they had a horrible show in the Champions League this season, coming third behind Turkish giants Besiktas and Portugal’s Liga NOS leaders FC Porto and will lock horns against Italian outfit Napoli in the Europa League round of 32. On the other hand, Wolfsburg will look to continue their good run, winning two and drawing two in their last five matches, enough to elevate them to the 12th spot.
Vfl Wolfsburg starting XI: – K. Casteels, P. Verhaegh, F. Uduokhai, J. Brooks, William, J. Guilavogui, M. Arnold, Y. Gerhardt, D. Didavi (V. Osimhen 89’), Y. Malli, M. Gomez (D. Origi 67’)
RB Leipzig starting XI: – P. Gulacsi, L. Klostermann (K. Laimer 82’), I. Konate, D. Upamecano, M. Halstenberg, S. Ilsanker, N. Keita, K. Kampl (D. Kaiser 89’), Bruma (D. Demme 79’), Y. Poulsen, T. Werner
Leipzig started attacking right away as Werner and Ilsanker tried to score but had their attempts turn futile in the first five minutes. A rash tackle by Konate on Gomez inside the penalty box changed the tide of the game in favour of the home side as the Gomez made no mistake in dispatching the penalty successfully to make it 1-0 in favour of the home side. High pressing and missed set pieces for both the sides frustrated both the sides as the first half finished 1-0.
Leipzig were successful in equalising within just 10 minutes into the second half after Marcel Halstenberg’s left footed effort found its way to the back of the net after receiving a pin-point pass from his teammate Yussuf Poulsen.
