Manchester clubs Set To Go Head-To-Head For Real Madrid Defender
Manchester City have reportedly joined Manchester United in the race to sign Raphael Varane
Varane has been on the radar of Jose Mourinho for a long time. Mourinho is a huge admirer of the 24-year-old French international and tried to lure him away from the Santiago Bernabeu when Pepe and Ramos were preferred over him but Varane pledged his future with the Los Blancos by signing a new five-year extension in September, 2017. Mourinho didn’t end his pursuit of Varane back then and continued his monitoring of the youngster and is ready to lodge a formal bid to bring him at the Old Trafford.
But, according to reports in Spanish publication Don Balon, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is also keen to add Varane to his roster.
Mangala’s inability to cope up with the pressure of playing for a big team and unsurity over Kompany’s long-term fitness mean City will be actively pursuing a centre-back in transfer market. Since last summer they have been linked with Jonny Evans and Inigo Martinez. Recent reports also claimed that they would again go for the duo in January. No doubt, Varane would be an upgrade to both of them.
It’s a no brainer that Real Madrid will be unwilling to sell one of their top assets. But Pep Guardiola’s side believes an offer in the region of £30m could to be enough to convince the Madrid giants.
