I-League 2017-18 Match-09. Gokulam Kerala FC played against Chennai City FC in EMS Corporation stadium, Calicut. Where the home side failed to win the match and the match ends in 1-1. Both the teams had lost its first game, so both the teams had played fiercely to gain the points for the first time in this season.

The Head Coach of CCFC V.Soundarrarajan had stated in the Pre-Match conference itself “Only three players have played top-tier football in the team. It will be a hard match against Gokulam (FC) at their home. We will try our best to not lose the match and save at least a point from the away game.”

Former Aizawl FC and Mohun Bagan striker Kamo Stephane Bayi scored the opening goal for the home side in the 22nd minute but Chennai City FC’s French forward Jean-Michel Joachim restored parity within six minutes.

Reflecting on the performance, coach V Soundararajan claimed he was pleased with the full-time result.

He had stated “I’m satisfied with the result. Gokulam (Kerala FC) is playing at home and so getting a point is valuable. The team is not settled properly. Our next match is against Minerva in Punjab. In the team, I want to correct our forward section. Our forwards are weak and hence, I want to improve the attack,’’

On the other hand, Gokulam Kerala FC coach Bino George too was disappointed with the fact that his team missed several opportunities to score.

“We had lost three foreigners to injury. We set our team based on them. In the second half, we dominated a bit more. Both substitutions towards the end of the second half were due to injuries. (Lelo Blaise) Mbele is a very good forward but we lost him due to a hamstring problem,’’ he explained.

GKFC will meet Neroca FC on 9th December 2017 in Calicut. CCFC takes on MPFC in Ludhiana on 11th December 2017.
