La Liga Match Review : Sevilla vs Deportivo
Sevilla regain momentum to edge past Deportivo
Sevilla look set to continue their winning streak in La Liga after losing a nail biting encounter against group leaders FC Barcelona almost a month back and will hope to break into the top-4 after coming on par in points with currently 4th placed side Real Madrid. Sevilla hosted 17th placed Deportivo this week and cruised to a comfortable 2-0 victory over the struggling side. Sevilla boss Eduardo Berizzo declared his team would toil hard for the title this season and expects a tight fight for a top-4 finish this season.
Sevilla line-up: – D. Soria, G. Mercado, J. Geis, C. Lenglet, S. Escudero, E. Banega (J. Navas 85’), G. Pizarro, F. Vazquez (M. K. Dehli 69’), P. Sarabia, W. B. Yedder, Nolito (J. Correa 87’)
Deportivo line-up: – R. Martinez, Juanfran, F. Schar, Sidnei, F. Navarro, F. Cartabia (C. Gil 77’), Guilherme, F. Valverde, A. Lopez (E. Colak 82’), L. Perez, C. Borges (F. Andone 63’)
Sevilla scored late in the first half when a Nolito through found its way to Wissam Ben Yedder who made no mistake in netting home his third goal of the season. His powerful left footed shot from the centre of the box glided past Martinez to the bottom left corner. The home side did face a rigid backline from the visitors but were successful to puncture the away defence again in the 78th minute to give Sevilla a healthy 2-0 lead via another Nolito assist, finished to perfection by Danish midfielder Dehli. Sevilla displayed crisp ball play from the wings throughout the match as Deportivo found no way to net one past the home side at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium.
Sevilla next visit Maribor to play their Champions League group stage encounter this midweek while Deportivo next welcome Leganes for their La Liga fixture.
