Leipzig lose vital points as Hoffenheim surge upwards

The race for supremacy in the German league continued to change sides as in-form team TSG 1899 Hoffenheim brutally shocked visitors RB Leipzig at the WIRSOL Rhein Neckar Arena in an overwhelming 4-0 showcase of brilliant attacking football from the home side. Leipzig needed a win to close the gap between them and the runaway leaders Bayern Munich to just three points but a gritty display of defence stopped the duo of Timo Werner and Yussuf Poulsen to net even a single goal, having had the majority of possession throughout the game. With this convincing win over the second placed team, Hoffenheim now sit pretty on the fifth spot in the group table and are just three points behind their victim Leipzig.

Amiri opened the score sheet for the home side early in the 13th minute after his right footed effort glided past the opposition keeper to find its way into the bottom left corner of the goal. The Leipzig back line looked sturdy in the first half after conceding the goal as the first half ended 1-0. It was Gnabry’s time to shine as his powerful shot from centre of the box ended up inside the goal after receiving an Akpoguma pass in the 52nd minute. Gnabry completed his brace for the night ten minutes later, receiving a pass from Amiri as he score a belter from more than 35 yards to the centre of the goal. The home side sealed the match in the dying minutes as Uth put one past Gulacsi in the 87th minute.
