Manchester City Looking To Land Ajax Star
Ajax youngster Frenkie de Jong has opened up about the possibility of a move to a bigger club
The 20-year-old Dutch midfielder has seen his stock rising after two back-to-back exciting seasons with Ajax which includes reaching the final of the Europa League last season. He has already a starter at Ajax midfield and can play both as central midfielder and defensive midfielder.
According to Voetbal International, de Jong’s fine form has attracted interest from all around Europe with the likes of Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, RB Leipzig and Hamburg are mixed into the fray.
Upon asking about all those reported interest, De Jong said, “A lot has been written about me lately. Some of the rumours are true, but I am not contemplating a transfer right now.
“I doubt I’d be a starter at Bayern Munich or Manchester City right away, anyway.
“Me in midfield next to Kevin De Bruyne… that’d be something.”
Manchester City and Arsenal are reportedly ready to lodge £5m bids for the Dutchman in January. But, de Jong seems to be happy to continue his progress with Ajax right now. His current contract is set to run out in 2019 and Ajax are trying to convince him to extend it until 2022.
