A-League: Western Sydney Wanderers vs Brisbane Roar- All you need to know
Western Sydney Wanderers saw their winless streak extended last weekend as they fell to a 2-0 defeat away to Adelaide United, keeping them without a win in any competitive football since the opening weekend of the Hyundai A-League.
Despite their failings, they have at least proved difficult to beat. They have lost just one of their six A-League games, winning their opening game and drawing the remaining four to put them in 6th position in the table. However, if they keep dropping points like this they will undoubtedly find themselves dropping out of the playoff spots, so they really need to up their game for the remainder of the season.
There have definitely been some promising performances in this run, including a point away to reigning champions Sydney FC and last season’s runners up Melbourne Victory. These have come interspersed with disappointing performances against the likes of Central Coast Mariners and Adelaide United though.
Brisbane Roar aren’t having the greatest of seasons either though. The visitors were comfortable beaten away to Sydney FC last weekend to resign them to their fourth defeat of the season. This leaves the visitors second from bottom in the table, although with just two points between them and Western Sydney Wanderers, they would leapfrog their opponents with a win on Saturday.
Western Sydney Wanderers vs Brisbane Roar
Date: 2nd December 2017
Kick off at 06:35 UK / 07:35 CET/ 12.05 IST
Venue: ANZ Stadium (Sydney).
Going into the game:
Western Sydney Wanderers
Wanderers opened the new season with a victory in front of the home crowd, but they failed to back it up later on being winless in seven remaining fixtures, including the FFA Cup loss against Adelaide United.
It’s Adelaide who have ended Sydney’s run of five straight draws in A-League last weekend when they saw off Gombau’s men 2-0 at home.
The clash with the Roar will marl Wanderers’ return to the ANZ Stadium after playing four consecutive league outings away from home.
Brisbane got their first win of the season two weeks ago when they stunned Melbourne City 3-1 at home.
Nonetheless, the team led by John Aloisi couldn’t back it up last weekend when they fell to the defending champions and the strongest side in Australia Sydney 3-1 on the road.
Western Sydney Wanderers vs Brisbane Roar: Head to head
Three of last four H2H ties between the two likes ended with the same 1-1 scoreline, including the playoffs clash back in mid-April this year.
Brisbane eventually advanced from that after a penalty-shootout series. However, the Roar have not been too successful at ANZ Stadium where they suffered five defeats and celebrated no more than two wins in ten matches over the history.
Western Sydney Wanderers
Goalkeeper Jerrad Tyson is the only injury concern for Western Sydney Wanderers.
Brisbane Roar continue to struggle through their injury crisis, with goalkeeper Michael Theo, defenders Daniel Bowles, Corey Brown, Luke De Vere, and Jade North, midfielder Thomas Kristensen, and striker Shannon Brady all sidelined.
A win doesn’t seem likely though. Roar have won just one A-League game this season and that came on home soil, whereas away from home they have drawn two and lost two of their four league matches.
Both of these sides are lacking in winning spirit at the moment, and I can definitely see another stalemate on Saturday. Western Sydney Wanderers have drawn four of their six league games this season and their opponents have played out stalemates on three occasions, so backing another draw here looks a good choice alongside a 1-1 correct score predictions.
