A-League: Adelaide United vs Sydney FC- All you need to know about it
Adelaide United will be hoping to gain a measure of revenge on Friday as they face off with Sydney FC – The side that beat them 2-1 in extra time in the FFA Cup Final just over a week ago. This was heartbreaking for an Adelaide United side who had worked so hard to get back into the match, but in the end the best team lifted the trophy.
United responded by beating Western Sydney Wanderers 2-0 last weekend, but overall their opening couple of months of the season have been worryingly inconsistent. They opened the campaign with two draws and a win before embarking on a three match losing streak. That win over Wanderers did make it two league wins in a row, but they will face a much sterner test on Friday.
Sydney FC are the reigning champions of Australia, having lifted both the Premiership and the Championship last season and following that with their FFA Cup Final triumph in November. They look very likely to do the same thing this season as well.
Last weekend they beat Brisbane Roar 3-1 at the Allianz Stadium to open up a gap at the top of the table. They are now two points clear of Newcastle Jets after beating them in mid-November, and they have won six of their eight league games this season.
Meanwhile, Adelaide United are stuck down in 7th position with just eight points from their first seven games. They do have a game in hand on most of the teams surrounding them, but they were hoping for a much better showing after some solid performances at the start of the season.

Adelaide United vs Sydney: Head-to-head
The teams recently met in the final of FFA Cup a week ago. Sydney clinched the title with a 2-1 win with the decisive goal coming in the extra time.
Sydney were unbeaten in the three A-League meetings of last season, 2 wins and 1 draw. Adelaide failed to score in those three games.
Adelaide were unbeaten at home in 7 games against Sydney in all competitions before losing 0-4 in the corresponding fixture last season.
Both teams have scored in 7 of the last 10 meetings between the sides at the Coopers Stadium.
Adelaide United are without defenders Tarek Elrich and Taylor Regan, along with left midfield duo Johan Absalonsen and Vince Lia.
Central midfielder Rhyan Grant remains Sydney FC’s only injury concern this weekend.
Adelaide hit form at the right moment and back-to-back wins help them to carry some confidence and momentum into this game. They haven’t won against Sydney in the last four games in all competitions, which will be a good reason to keep performance level at the highest possible level.
However, Sydney has been impeccable this season and will be coming in good spirits having picked 7 wins and a draw in their last 9 away games in all competitions since February. Therefore, punters must expect a cagey affair on Friday and it will be hard to separate the teams at the end of 90 minutes.
So, LNTUP predicts a win for the visitors with a correct scoreline of 2-1.
