The Launch of CCFC Foundation in Coimbatore
Chennai City FC, the club was founded in 1946 as Nethaji Sports Club by five friends- SV Kanagasabai, E Vadivelu, TR Govindarajan, PV Chellappa and K Ekambaram. On 11 December 2016, the club was accepted as a direct entry club for 2016–17 I-League and became the second club from Tamil Nadu to play in the top division after Indian Bank team in National Football League.
The team has formed within a short span of time, after the teams direct entry into I-League 2016-17 season. The team completed in 8th position with 4 wins. After the end of the season CCFC had signed a MOU with the Finland club JS Hercules with the following 3 three things to be concentrated on it:
- Hercules and Chennai City open a joint venture company in Chennai to boost trade between Finland and the state of Tamil Nadu.
- Staff and player exchange between the two clubs to improve the sporting success.
- Exchange of best practices and projects between the clubs; in sport, in business and in social engagement.
Last year three of the Chennai City FC players went to Finland for a small training period including Nandha Kumar who was in India’s U-23 squad played along with Germanpreet Singh. In ISL-4, he is going to play for Delhi Dynamos FC.
As we already know that Indian Super League(ISL) has been taking place in India and, from 25th November 2017 onwards I-League going to start. Last year Chennai City FC had used Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai as their home stadium which is also the home stadium to Chennaiyin FC, the ISL side from Chennai. This time the schedules of ISL is by weekend and the ISL season will last till 4th March 2017. So that CCFC will not get Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, so they had shifted their home to Coimbatore. Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Coimbatore will be their home stadium.
