Tottenham Hotspur defender will be out for six weeks
Tottenham Hotspur may be without Toby Alderweireld for six more weeks after Mauricio Pochettino admitted the centre back’s injury was worse than first feared.
Alderweireld limped off during Tottenham’s impressive win over Real Madrid in the Champions League earlier this month after injuring his hamstring.
The defender has already missed Tottenham’s win over Crystal Palace and was subsequently left out of Belgium’s squad over the international break.
And Pochettino now expects Alderweireld to be on the sidelines until after Christmas with a crucial run of fixtures ahead for Spurs.
When asked about Alderweireld’s injury, Pochettino said: ‘We expect longer than previously when the problem happened. Maybe after Christmas is the expectation’.
Tottenham travel to the Emirates to face rivals Arsenal in the north London derby on Saturday afternoon before a Champions League trip to tackle German side Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday evening.
Pochettino played a back three of Eric Dier, Jan Vertonghen and Davidson Sanchez last time out in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.
