Sydney FC vs Newcastle Jets: All you need to know about this A-League match
Last weekend’s Hyundai A-League clash between Central Coast Mariners and Sydney FC threw up somewhat of a shock result as the reigning A-League champions Sydney FC fell to their first defeat of the season against a side struggling to get anywhere near the top six.
This 2-0 loss made it four wins, one draw, and one defeat from their opening six league games, and with their FFA Cup Final clash coming up on Tuesday there is a chance they could sacrifice their chances of winning here to rest players for that huge clash with Adelaide United.
For Newcastle Jets, this difficult clash couldn’t have come at a better time. Not only are their opponents reeling from an unexpected defeat and facing an early midweek cup game, but the Jets themselves are in fantastic shape.
The visitors beat Adelaide United 2-1 away from home last weekend to continue their unbeaten start to the season. They have won four and drawn two of their last six games, pushing them to the top of the A-League table and leading Melbourne City and Sydney FC by a point.
Considering Newcastle Jets have missed out on the playoffs for six consecutive seasons this is a stunning start from them. If they can avoid any major catastrophes they should easily make the playoffs, but after such a good start their eyes will be lingering on a more prestigious prize.

Sydney FC vs Newcastle Jets: Head-to-head
A head-to-head win for Newcastle Jets has to be dated back to the 2012/13 season when they won 2 of the three games while playing out a stalemate in the other. Since then, Sydney won 11 of the 12 clashes along with a draw and kept clean sheets in 11.
At home, Sydney are unbeaten in six with 5 wins and a draw. The Jets haven’t scored a single goal during the period.
Newcastle Jets have lost 0% of their Hyundai A-League games this season, winning 67% of them and seeing both teams score in 83%. Sydney FC have scored in 83% of their A-League games, winning 67% of them.

Central midfielder Rhyan Grant is the only absentee for the hosts.
Newcastle Jets are without right back Daniel Georgievski and striker Ronald Vargas.
Both of the Jets’ failures to win came at home as well. Away from home they have won all three of their matches, hammering Central Coast Mariners 5-1 before winning 2-1 against Brisbane Roar and Adelaide United. Sydney FC have already dropped points on home soil as well, so backing a Newcastle Jets Win or Draw Double Chance looks fantastic value for money.
The visitors have conceded in all but one of their league matches this season though, whilst Sydney FC have scored in all but one of theirs. This makes a Newcastle Jets Win and Both Teams to Score bet look great value too, along with a 2-1 correct score predictions.
