Arsenal Star To Go To Barcelona In The Next Transfer Window
Barcelona will go to bid for the Arsenal star player Mesut Ozil in the winter transfer window if they fail to get Coutinho in that time.
Ozil looks set to leave the Gunners either this winter or at the end of the season after failing to agree over a new deal in north London.
There was little interest in the German maestro during the summer but that appears to be changing ahead of the January transfer window.
The Catalan giants are eager to bring in a marquee signing in the January transfer window and are working hard to prise Philippe Coutinho away from Liverpool.
However, after having three offers knocked back in the summer with the Reds adamant he wasn’t for sale, Barca face another tough battle to convince them to change their mind in the New Year.
And that has led to the La Liga leaders looking at alternative options.
Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo claim Barca are now exploring the possibility of sealing Ozil’s return to La Liga.
The former Real Madrid midfielder is out of contract at Arsenal in the summer and doesn’t look any closer to signing a new deal.
Arsenal are reportedly prepared to cash in on him in the winter window rather than lose him for free at the end of the summer.
And Mundo Deportivo claim Barca’s hierarchy are long-term admirers of the German and are willing to make a move for him if their Coutinho pursuit reaches a dead end once again.
With the club top of La Liga and going strong in the Champions League, a player of Ozil’s experience would be a welcomed addition in the second half of the campaign.
The report suggests Barca were interested in signing Ozil when he was at Werder Bremen in 2010.
But the 29-year-old opted to join Real Madrid instead where he became a huge hit in the capital, winning La Liga and Copa del Rey titles.
Ozil continued his success in north London after signing in 2013 for £42.5million, but his performances have come in for criticism of late following Arsenal’s struggles under Arsene Wenger that sees them without Champions League football this term.
And with Barca open to offering Ozil a way out of the Emirates, the Germany international could be keen to have another crack in Spain.
Some other source understands that Jose Mourinho is keen to reunite with Ozil at Old Trafford.
United bosses want the midfielder to lower his wage demands but they are keen to snap him up on a free next summer.
Mourinho may be forced to step up his pursuit and launch an offer for him January amid the interest from Spain.
Ozil will be in action for Arsenal tomorrow as Arsene Wenger’s men take on Tottenham in the north London derby.
