1.Optimistic Rojo.
Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo is hopeful of returning from injury in time for the side’s Champions League tie early next month, the Argentina international has said.
Rojo suffered knee ligament damage in April and is yet to regain full fitness, but the 27-year-old is confident he can return to first team action for the Group A game against CSKA Moscow on Dec. 5.

2. Confident Kompany.
Defender Vincent Kompany has missed Manchester City’s last eight Premier League games with a calf injury but the skipper says he is under no pressure to win back his place in the side.
The Belgian, who last played in the 2-1 win at Bournemouth in August before suffering a setback on international duty, has since returned to training as the league leaders prepare to visit 12th-placed Leicester City on Saturday.

3. World Cup qualifiers.
Captain Mile Jedinak led the way with a second-half hat-trick as Australia brushed aside Honduras 3-1 in the second leg of their intercontinental playoff on Wednesday to secure a place at next year’s World Cup finals.

4. Ribery back in training.
Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery returned to training on Wednesday following a six-week injury break due to a knee injury. The 34-year-old Frenchman, at Bayern since 2007, is desperate to return to action as he battles for a contract extension at the end of the season.
Ribery tore the lateral collateral ligament in his left knee in the German champions’ 2-2 draw at Hertha Berlin on October 1.

5. Blow for Barcelona.
Barcelona says defender Javier Mascherano will be sidelined for about a month because of a hamstring injury. Mascherano hurt his right leg while playing in Argentina’s 4-2 loss to Nigeria in a friendly in Russia on Tuesday.
Tests conducted on Wednesday in Barcelona showed the extent of the injury. The 33-year-old Argentine played the entire game against Nigeria.

6. Italian coach is being fired.
Italy coach Gian Piero Ventura was fired Wednesday, two days after the Azzurri’s failure to qualify for the World Cup. Meanwhile, the refusal of football federation president Carlo Tavecchio to resign was met with protest at a summit called to assess the failure.

7. Peru in World Cup.
Peru beat New Zealand 2-0 on Wednesday night to win a two-leg playoff and earn the 32nd and last spot in the World Cup field in Russia.
Peru won at home after tying 0-0 on Saturday in New Zealand. It last reached the World Cup in 1982.

8. Leon Britton to return in Burnley match.
Swansea City’s newly-appointed player-assistant coach is confident that he will be fit to face Burnley in Saturday’s Premier League game, the 35-year-old midfielder has said.

9. Good news for Liverpool.
Liverpool have been handed a double injury boost as captain Jordan Henderson declared himself fit and midfielder Adam Lallana returned to full training ahead of Saturday’s Premier League home game against Southampton.

10. Corinthians win Brazilian Championship.
Former Manchester City striker Jo scored two goals as Corinthians beat Fluminense 3-1 on Wednesday to claim its seventh Brazilian championship.
The Sao Paulo-based club won the tournament with three games in hand.
