Mourinho is interested to join Paris Saint Germain next season
Manchester United fear they could lose Jose Mourinho to Paris Saint-Germain next summer as he feels he cannot compete with Manchester City.
Mourinho initially fuelled rumours that he could switch Manchester for the French capital during a TV interview in France where he waxed lyrical about the Ligue 1 giants.
And, according to some sources, there is a growing concern among the United top brass that the lure of the Qatar-backed outfit could prove too much for the Portuguese.
The fear stems from a reported feeling of inferiority — specifically in terms of Mourinho competing with Pep Guardiola’s superstars, who are setting the Premier League alight.
Guardiola’s side are the early pace-setters in the English top flight this term and Mourinho feels he does not have the resources to outstrip his city counterparts.
The United boss is demanding more money from his current employers to splash in the next transfer market — despite already forking out £300 million since taking the reins at Old Trafford in 2016.
Mourinho is halfway through his three-year deal at United and after a promising first season and an encouraging start to this, the Red Devils boss openly spoke of his interest in the French outfit.
The former Real Madrid and Chelsea manager openly stated he was not going to finish his career at United during last month’s interview — killing any hope of another Fergie-like reign at Old Trafford.
And when asked about Paris, the 54-year-old said: ‘My son who lives in London went to Paris to see a PSG match and he did not go to Manchester.
‘Why Paris? Because there’s something special. Magic, quality, youth, it’s fantastic.’
Should Mourinho move to Parc des Princes he would certainly be handed a hefty pay packet, as well as even more carte blanche in the transfer market — given PSG’s unrivalled clout in last summer’s window with the signings of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
