Surprise ! Liverpool Player Of The Month Announced And It’s Not Salah
Dejan Lovren is set to be crowned Liverpool’s Player of the Month for October after thousands of fans backed an online campaign to show support for the defender.
Voting has now closed for the Standard Chartered award with the club website putting Lovren in first place with Mohamed Salah in second. They have both polled 33% of the vote.
Fans rallied round Lovren after the Croatian defender, who was heavily criticised for a disastrous performance in the defeat to Tottenham, hit out at the “disgusting” abuse he had been subjected to on social media.
The Liverpool centre-back received one sickening private message on Instagram which read: “I’m gonna murder ur family u Croatian p****.” Lovren shared the image with the caption: “Horrible what kind of people we have.”
Winger Salah looked nailed on to retain the award which he also collected in August and September having maintained his excellent form by netting three goals in October.
However, Lovren, despite struggling badly and then missing the win over Huddersfield due to a thigh injury, has received a groundswell of support.
Philippe Coutinho (9%) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (6%) are third and fourth in the poll respectively.
