Manchester City continue winning streak
Manchester City’s dream run did not see its end just yet after the Blues cruised to a rather difficult 3-2 win away from home over the struggling West Bromwich Albion. Pep’s blue army has now won 13 matches in a row, surpassing the club’s past record of consecutive winning streak.
With no Aguero in the starting line-up, Pep opted for a forward three including Brazilian prodigy Gabriel Jesus, Leroy Sane on the left while Bernardo Silva took care of the right flank. Sane opened the scoring after just 10 minutes on the clock after receiving the ball from central midfielder Fernandinho, rocketing the ball across a helpless Ben Foster. West Bromwich equalised three minutes later when Barry delivered a juicy lofted ball to Jay Rodriguez who made no mistake netting it past out of position Ederson. But the Baggies could not hold the lead for long as Fernandinho struck an out-of-the-box shot which found its way into the net after deflecting from Barry’s legs. The first half saw no more goals as the sides continuously looked to penetrate the opposition defence only to be left to try again in the second half.
Substituting Bernardo Silva in the 61st minute, Sterling struck just a couple of minutes after his arrival after Kyle Walker sent across a beautiful low cross into the box to find the Englishman in a perfect position to seal the game in favour of the Blues. West Brom did find a consolation goal in the 92nd minute after an Otamendi error was fully utilised by Phillips who gloriously controlled the ball to score the second for the home side.
City’s next test lies in their trip to Stadio San Paolo to meet Napoli for the fourth Champions’ League group stage draw while West Bromwich will be looking for full three points against newly promoted Huddersfield Town next week.
