Girona vs Real Madrid 5 talking points

0 20

Madrid travelled to Catalonia fearing a backlash in the stands, but they didn’t expect to be embarrassed on the pitch.
In their first ever meeting with the European champions, Girona emerged deserving winners from a dominant display that will have been cheered all across Catalonia from Montlivi to just over 100 kilometres away at the Camp Nou.
Madrid now trail Barcelona by eight points in a title race that may be done the same day the clocks went back.
Despite a slow start, Real should have settled when Isco fired them in front on 12 minutes as he took advantage on the rebound after Bono had parried Cristiano Ronaldo’s initial effort.
Here are 5 talking points from the match:-

Worst La liga for Cristiano Ronaldo: In the past Cristiano Ronaldo bagged a handful of goals but this year he seemed to has lost his magic touch as the Portuguese talisman had only 1 goal in the league.
Strangely he is the top scorer of Champions League but this is probably the worst ever la liga start for the Real Madrid forward.
Also he had a really poor game today as well.

Madrid looked in “real” trouble: After the tremendous success of last season everybody compared Zidane’s Madrid to one of the club teams ever to be assembled.
But this season surprisingly they are in real danger as nothing is going for them. Zidane is now feeling the pressure as he didn’t quite made a decent purchase in the transfer window. And Alvaro Morata is surely missed.

Shaky Ramos: As considered one of the best defenders of today’s time Sergio Ramos had a real off day. He was looking really shaky at the back and the communication at the back was really messed up.
Varane saved the first half for Ramos but in the second half he took a knock and left the pitch and Madrid conceded two goals to lose the match.

Catalonia revenge: The atmosphere was literally a hell for Madrid and in the pitch the Girona players matched up with the crowd’s excitement.
They suffocated Madrid in every part of the pitch and took their chances clinically as well.
Even after hitting the woodwork twice in the first half they showed their real character and gave the holders a pretty tough time.

Wembley next: Already 8 points behind Barcelona Madrid are looking out of the league so their main focus is now to win the Champions League yet again to avoid a trophyless season.
Zidane will be fully aware of this fact and he knows that everybody is expecting them to respond against Spurs after this debacle. But Wembley will not be a walk in the park as they have to put up a show there and will show the world that why they are defending champions.
