Bayern emerge victorious again as Leipzig lose vital points
After crashing out of the DFB-Pokal Cup last week following a loss on penalties (4-5) to Bayern Munich at home, Leipzig travelled to the Allianz Arena for their Bundesliga tie this week.
A splendid performance by the Bavarians guaranteed full three points for the home side by the virtue of which they sit on top of the league standings by a healthy margin of three points behind Dortmund after a very shaky start to the new season. The appointment of ex-Bayern manager Jupp Heynckes again after the shock sacking of Carlo Ancelotti made quite a good impact as Bayern remain undefeated since Jupp’s arrival.
Things did not look in control from the start for the Leipzig side as Orban was red-carded after just 13 minutes following his rash challenge on Arjen Robben. With Ribery out injured with a nasty ACL tear, it was James Rodriguez’s time to shine as he opened the scoring after 19 minutes on the clock after receiving a cross from fellow mate Rudy.
Bayern hitman Lewandowski scored the second and eventually the final goal of the game for the home side in the 38th minute after Martinez’s through ball found the Polish international who made absolutely no mistake to net it.
Leipzig dropped tough though crucial points and now sit on the 3rd spot with 19 points while Bayern are on 1st with 23 points. Dortmund will be looking to provide tough competition to both of them as a string of consecutive wins could change of the fortunes for any team. Bayern next play against Celtic away while Leipzig visit Porto for their Champions’ League group stage fixtures.
