Wellington Phoenix vs Brisbane Roar FC: All you need to know about this A-League match

0 18

Wellington Phoenix’ winless start to the new Hyundai A-League campaign continued last weekend as they were beaten away to Melbourne City, but to be fair they’ve endured a very difficult start to the season and despite their tough fixtures they have by no means embarrassed themselves.

They opened with a winnable game against Adelaide United but ended up dropping two points, before very tough visits to current A-League champions Sydney FC and then Melbourne City, games which they lost 3-2 and 1-0 respectively.

The two goals they managed against Sydney show that they have the attacking credentials this season, and back in their home country they will be confident of ending their winless start. It’s always difficult for the Kiwis to travel to away matches, and it’s equally as tough for their Australian visitors to play their away games in a country four hours away by plane.

Brisbane Roar aren’t in the mood for tough fixtures either, because their start to the season has been awful so far. They have lost all three of their A-League games, with a trip to Melbourne City ending 2-0 and home games against Adelaide United and Newcastle Jets both seeing them lose 2-1.

The visitors have now lost four away games in a row in the A-League, and the eight goals they have conceded in this time will set the impressive Phoenix attack on high alert. The hosts have scored ten goals in their last four home games in the A-League.

This disappointment comes down to Roar’s actions in the off-season. They lost a really exciting trio of youngsters in Mclaren, Oar, and Borrello and replaced them with ageing talent, which has not yet put in the performances expected of them.
