FIFA reschedules U17 World cup semifinal from Guwahati to Kolkata
After a serve of the dreadful condition of the pitch in the Guwahati Indira Gandhi stadium scheduled to host the U17 world cup semifinal game between Brazil and England due to be played on 25 October 2017, FIFA had undertaken the decision to move the venue to Kolkata’s Yuba Bharati Kriranga stadium.
Assam is subjected to severe rainfall in last couple of weeks which has disrupted the normal state of the pitch in the stadium. Despite the efforts of the ground men and the field staffs including the authorities of the State Government of Assam to preserve the ground, FIFA was forced to acquire such decision after mutual agreement with both the national teams for securing better football conditions.
So people of Kolkata are lucky to witness a clash of high quality in their newly structured stadium.
Fans with a valid ticket for the semifinal originally planned at Guwahati must request a refund and should have access to purchase tickets at Kolkata to see the game.
FIFA and LOC both apologized to the fans residing in Guwahati for the rescheduling of the fixture and thanked for the never ending cooperation of the Assam board throughout the settlement of this venue.
