Sevilla thrashed by a dominant Valencia
Striker Simone Zaza scored his seventh La Liga goal of the season, as Valencia moved up to within a point of leaders Barcelona with a 4-0 thrashing over the fellow top-four hopefuls Sevilla at the Mestalla.
Gonçalo Guedes’ brace and a late strike from Santi Mina saw Valencia sealing their fifth consecutive league victory.
Los Che have scored 22 goals in their last six games and have emerged as a title contender after finishing in the bottom half of the table in the last season.
The hosts found their breakthrough just before the half-time when Guedes bursted through on goal before cutting back onto his right foot and firing a fine finish into the top corner. Zaza doubled the lead in the second half when he drilled a clinical low finish into the bottom far corner.
With five minutes remaining, Santi Mina scored the third of the evening with Guedes providing the assist. Sevilla’s evening went from bad to worse when Guedes struck again in the stoppage time after latching on to Kondogbia’s pass.
The defeat for Sevilla allowed Real Betis to move above them into fifth place on goal difference after they beat Alavés 2-0 at the Estadio Benito Villamarín.
