UEFA open disciplinary proceedings against Roma over monkey chants
UEFA have opened disciplinary proceedings against Roma following racist chants during their Champions League clash against Chelsea.
Antonio Rüdiger, the former Roma and current Chelsea defender is said to be the target of the abuse. UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary body will deal with the case and a decision is expected to be made when the committee meets on November 16.
This is not the first time that Rüdiger has been the target of racial abuse. Last season, while playing for Roma, the German was subjected to racist chants from the stands during a Coppa Italia match against Lazio.
He was also verbally abused by Lazio midfielder Senad Lulić. Lulić was then banned for 20 days and fined £8,500.
