Florentino Pérez: “I cannot imagine a Spain without Catalonia and LaLiga without Barcelona”
Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez believes that Barcelona will stay in the LaLiga and there will be no independence for Catalonia.
“I think that the best players should be in the national team and that they are united with a good atmosphere,” said Pérez. “To tell you the truth that is what I’ve seen over the past few games.
Tension in the autonomous region of Catalonia has really heightened over an independence referendum that was backed by the Catalonia government and many important figures including Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué.
“I cannot imagine a Spain without Catalonia and LaLiga without Barcelona,” the 70-year old further added.
In the wake of the referendum, Barcelona had to play their LaLiga clash against Las Palmas behind closed doors after LaLiga refused to postpone the match due to violent clashes in the region.
On Monday, Jordi Sánchez and Jordi Cuixart, presidents of two regional independence platforms were sentenced to jail without bail.
