Tito Vilanova’s son scores on his full debut
Having a famous name always comes with its own pressure, sometimes too stressful to handle.
Played less than frequently by the Barcelona B side, ever since his promotion from the U-19 squad, Adrià Vilanova took a decision. He decided to drop down a division to the third-tier – Segunda División B, in order to earn regular first team action.
Vilanova signed for Hércules CF in the summer on a one-year deal. However, first team action would still delude him until of course this Sunday. Having played for five minutes against Atlético Saguntino, the 20-year-old made his full time debut for Hércules in a 3-2 win over Peralda.
It was a debut to remember for the young player as he would score the equalising goal in the 37th minute after Peralda had taken the lead. Fittingly, Vilanova raised both his hands towards the air as he celebrated, probably, as a tribute to his late father, Tito Vilanova.
Adrià Vilanova certainly has more in common with his father than just the name. Tito too dropped down to the Segunda División B with Elche, after having played for Lleida in the Segunda División.
However, there is a stark contrast between the Vilanovas when it comes to their playing positions. Unlike his father who played as a midfielder, Adrià is a centre-back.
