Premier League club open negotiations over Manchester City target Aaron Martin
Manchester United are leading Manchester City in Aaron Martin chase after initiating negotiations with Espanyol.
Martin, 20, has been earmarked by Jose Mourinho as the perfect candidate to strengthen the left-back spot. With Luke Shaw’s future at Old Trafford remains a doubt following a series of injuries, Mourinho wants to add depth to the left-back position. Jordi Alba and Ryan Sessegnon are also on Mourinho’s radar but Martin seems to be the priority right now.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is also an admirer of the Spanish left-back. City contacted Espanyol for Martin in the recently concluded summer transfer window but the contact ended up being informal. City are also in need of a left-back after Benjamin Mendy’s long term injury and have identified Martin to fill that spot.
According to ESPN, Manchester United sent scouts to observe Martin during Espanyol’s match against Levante. ESPN also claims that The Red Devils officials told Espanyol to keep themselves informed about the exciting youngster.
Although Martin signed a new contract with Espanyol last January, they are increasingly confident of losing him in upcoming January transfer window. But, the Spanish club have made it clear that any potential suitor must fork out Martin’s full £36m release clause.
