City secure nervous 3 points

City have been in splendid form this season so has Napoli. Both teams sit pretty on the first position in their respective leagues and this tie was to be a real litmus test for Guardiola’s star studded Manchester City. City has drawn just one of their total matches and won the rest while Napoli had won it all. But City were in their shark spirits once again, clinching a very shaky 2-1 victory over the Italian leaders at the Etihad.
Pep named an unchanged playing XI with no Aguero who has been rested following his horrific car accident in Amsterdam. It took nine minutes to open City’s account when Walker’s wrong-footed shot blocked by Koulibaly found its way to Sterling who tapped in a simple goal into an empty net.

City struck again, in the 13th minute when a perfect Kevin De Bruyne low-cross was sweetly finished by sensational Gabriel Jesus.

Napoli were awarded a penalty in the 37th minute due a Walker foul but Brazilian shot-stopper Ederson saved a straight Mertens spot-kick quite comfortably. High pressing from the Napoli side created a rather visible pressure on the hosts as the first half saw no more goals.

The visiting team were awarded another penalty in the 73rd minute as Fernandinho made a rash tackle on Allan. 20-year old Diawara scored the penalty keeping the ball low smashed into the bottom right leaving Ederson no chance to save it even after going the right way.

Repeated pass interceptions in both halves saw no more goals even after huge Napoli suppression on the City defence. The end of the game saw Pep’s successful run continue as they remain undefeated this season.
City next take on Burnley at home this weekend while Napoli welcome Inter Milan for Seria A game-week 9 action.
