RB Leipzig didn’t have the best of the starts to the Champions League campaign as they are left without a win after 2 matches. The home draw against Monaco on matchday 1 can be considered a good result, but they were expected to do much better against Besiktas in the previous round, yet ended up losing 2-0. Getting a positive result against Porto will be key for the Bundesliga side to sustain any chance of making out of the group phase.
On the other hand, FC Porto bagged a huge victory on matchday 2 as they drubbed Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco 3-0 away at the Stade Louis. Yet, there is plenty to play for the Portuguese giants as they are left with 3 points following the opening day defeat at home to Besiktas.
Leipzig are coming after ending Dortmund’s perfect home record on the weekend with a 3-2 win with a heavily rotated playing eleven. Despite the hiccup in the Champions League, Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side started to find the rhythm in the Bundesliga and have bagged three wins on the bounce. They key here will be to transfer the momentum into the late evening European fixture.
Porto’s lone defeat in all competition this season is against Besiktas. Their remaining 10 games saw 9 wins and 1 draw. Their head-coach Sergio Conceicao had the perfect opportunity to rest key players on the weekend as his team’s fixture was a cup game against lower division side Lusitano Evora.
Ralph Hasenhuttl will have to do without right back Lukas Klostermann, who recently has developed a thigh injury. Other than that, there are no injury concerns for the manager and he will be glad as they search for a European breakthrough. Look for Emil Forsberg and Timo Werner to come back into the side after being given rest.
Sergio Conceicao has injuries to goalkeeper Fabiano and center forward Tiquinho Soares that will see them made unavailable to him. After playing out a cup match at the weekend, expect a lot of changes to be made as their level of competition goes up drastically.
