Heroics from Icardi guides Inter past Milan on Derby day
Mauro Icardi scored a hat-trick to pile the pressure on Milan boss Vincenzo Montella as Internazionale came out on top in a thrilling Derby della Madonnina.
Luciano Spalletti’s team remain unbeaten this season and move above champions Juventus up to second in the Serie A table but they were made to fight hard by their neighbours after half-time at San Siro.
Milan did manage to cancel out two of Icardi’s goals but the Argentine scored a hat-trick to hand Inter the victory on derby day.
Icardi broke the deadlock on the 28th minute when he meet with Candreva’s excellent cross and slotted it home. Milan were 2nd best for most of the first half and despite splashing the cash Montella’s side was completely overmatched by Inter.
But right after the break the Rossonerri started threading in passes and making moves, the intent was clear and Montello also unleased teenager Cutrone in place of Kessie. Milan was showing promise in the 2nd half and were rewarded with a excellent long range equaliser from Suso.

Moments later, Icardi was the mastermind to a counter attack as it was the Argentine who started it and it was him at the end of it, making it 2-1 for Inter with a excellent volley.

But there was a final twist in the tale as Ricardo Rodriguez impeded D’Ambrosio in the area and Icardi stepped up to score from the spot. The Argentine was the calmest and the most composed man when he stood there waiting to take the penalty.
He is definitely up there among the best forwards currently and his hat-trick in this auspicious Derby della Madonnina will be remembered for a lifetime, as Icardi becomes the first player to score a hat-trick in Serie A in Derby della Madonnina since Diego Milito in May 2012.
Milan now sit 10th in the league table with lots of questions being asked but they are not finding the answers at the moment. Whereas Inter are still unbeaten in the league and sit comfortably in the 2nd position just behind Napoli.
