Club legend Martin Keown says Mesut Ozil has no future at Arsenal beyond January
Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown remarks that the German should not stay at the Emirates as his future hangs at the North London club. According to him, he should instead be put up for sale in the winter transfer window. He publicly accused Ozil proclaiming, “There’s one outcome here. When it comes to January he should leave.”
The German international whose contract runs out in the next summer is still yet to make his decision on the future. But recent circumstances may cause him to leave early as soon as possible when the winter transfer window opens in the next year. The forward was often criticized for his underperforming against big clubs. Now that has resulted in a burden for him because he is now lacking qualities against timid clubs. That has flamed the speculation on his way out of club.
In the weekend, Gunners lost 2-1 to Watford and the German missed a glorious chance to win the game for the red and white before the hornets controlled the whole aspects of the game and won it in the dying seconds.
Speaking about that in the BT sport studio, Martin said,
“The top players are ruthless and they don’t play for fun. I don’t know if he’s got that ruthlessness in his makeup.
“That ball has got to be in the back of the net. That should be game over, Arsenal have won the game.
“People might think I’m gunning for him, but you’ve got to be clinical in those situations. Is he really bothered? He’s just missed a chance to win a game for Arsenal.
“He’s a great talent, there is no doubt, but where is his head right now? Does he want to play for Arsenal?”
While the pundit is clearly set on the German leaving the North London club, he maintained his desire for Alexis Sanchez to stay till the end of the season, attributing his quality as Arsenal’s best hope of getting back into the Champions League.
