Antonio Conte question Chelsea’s ability to defend the title
Antonio Conte’s Blues had a hit to the face this weekend when his team waved a white flag to the downtrodden Crystal Palace in 2-1 loss which made the Italian to conclude after the game that it will be really tough for his side this season.
This defeat was really hard to assume because their opposition prior to this fixture lost all the seven games since the start of the season without scoring a goal. They made a break to all that rotten records when the champions entered the Selhurst park.
Antonio Conte was utterly distress about his team’s performance this weekend for he did not receive any decisive personnel to make the day for Chelsea due to injuries. Those absentee who troubled the more was Alvaro Morata and N’Golo Kante. The Spanish forward pulled a hamstring in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City while the ex-Leicester midfielder sustained a foot difficulty while performing his international duties with his nation France. Adding to that, Victor Moses also limped off this weekend and expected to be out for a month.
In an echo of frustration where the club failed to acquire any powerful individual in the summer window, Conte spoke about the approach the team should concentrate on.
Now in the champions league, he knows it will be hard to keep the balance between the European battle and league issues. This tournament has put a little pressure on him as the stakes are much high this time after a one year miss from it.
“We must not be happy,” the Italian spoke before taking on As Roma on Wednesday, “This season it will be tough. For this reason, we have to put 150% in it, 100% won’t be enough. I have players with a great will to work and fight. For sure we have to find the strength to overcome this moment. Everyone can see our situation.
” I think every person is different. Last season is the past. Now it is another squad, different new players and compare to last season we did not played Europa league or Champions league. This season we are facing four different competition and we have a few problems doing this. When you have a few injuries you are in trouble. ”
With Chelsea suffering loss in the weekend, Man City toiled with Stoke City by scoring massive in a 7-2 scoreline. Asked on this, Conte urged them not to worry about City whether they are unstoppable or not.
“You know very well the potential of other teams but it is important for us to look at ourselves. This season will be difficult but also we have to try to build something important for the future to give opportunity to the new players and to have experience in the league. We need to be patience this season to understand it won’t be easy.”
