Messi to get record renewal bonus
Lionel Messi could get a record breaking £80 million as a “signing bonus” from Barcelona.As the club made great profit last campaign,followed by naming rights sponsor for the Nou Camp as early as next season so it can pay the amount.
It is normal for clubs to add a signing-on fee or a renewal bonus in contract.Messi’s contract is estimated to be the highest ever.
According to Catalan newspaper L’Ara this week,it was claimed that Barcelona’s wage bill as percentage of overall revenue is 84% at £430 million.
Barcelona are hopeful of announcing a new Nike deal next year to boost revenue to meet the bill,with Nou Camp having sponsor’s name added to it for new season.Any deal can involve a brand name attatched to the name of the stadium for next 25 years raising upto £179 million.
There is an increased chance of Messi to sign his new £500,000 per week contract in next international break.
The deal till 2021 with the club,has been signed by his father Jorge and brother Rodrigo,but yet to be signed by him as rumours has it that Messi has been reluctant to work under the Catalan club’s under-performing president Josep Bartomeu.It is still undecided on his part as a result to whether sign the deal on November.
