Everton to stop pursuing Bas Dost?
Everton are ready to stop their pursuit of Dutch international striker Bas Dost as per latest reports.
The season hasn’t started as expected as per Everton’s point of view. Despite spending over £140m in new players, they are just 2 points clear of relegation zone and so far disappointed in Europa League too. Their new forward Sandro Ramirez has failed to find the net yet after 10 matches and Wayne Rooney too scored a meagre 3 goals. The Toffees have clearly failed miserably to replace Romelo Lukaku and they are ready to delve deep into the transfer market in January to solve their goalscoring problem.
Bas Dost, 28, who scored 34 goals in just 31 league appearances for Sporting Lisbon last season has been on top of Koeman’s priority list. But, the Primeira Liga side are demanding Everton to trigger the staggering £54m release clause of the prolific Dutch forward. Portuguese outlet A Bola reports that Koeman isn’t ready to break their all time transfer record by lodging such a mammoth bid and will try to look elsewhere for a proven goalscorer.
Dost, himself, doesn’t seem to be too keen on making such a move. When questioned about Everton’s reported interest, Dost told Dutch newspaper AD,
“I’m not waiting for a winter transfer at all. I’m excited at Sporting and I want to be a champion here. I’m not leaving in the winter break.”
