Pressure is high on Pep Guardiola to lead his side to Premier League glory this time after enduring a frustrating trophyless last season, the first of it’s kind in his managerial career. City have started this season brightly with a 2-0 win over newbies Brighton in Premier League. A draw against Everton in gameweek 2 halted their progress a little bit. But they are back in form now after edging past Bournemouth by 2-1 in gameweek 3 courtesy to a 97th minute winner by Raheem Sterling and 5-0 thrashing of Liverpool in gameweek 4. And their fine run continued with an emphatic 6-0 win over Watford at the Vicarage Road.
They further intensified their ambition with a 5-0 win over Crystal Palace and a statement making 1-0 win away at the Stamford Bridge.

Stoke City, on the other hand, will step up in gameweek 8 with mixed results in their kitty. Their triumph over Southampton in gameweek 7 ended their five-match run without victory. But they previously held Manchester United 2-2 and have also beaten Arsenal 1-0. Those results will surely give Mark Hughes’ men some much needed confidence to pull off an upset at the Etihad.

Head-to-head:

Manchester City and Stoke City have met 18 times in the Premier League era with Manchester City and Stoke came up as the winning side 9 times and 3 times respectively, the rest of the 6 matches ended in stalemate. Last season City beat Stoke 4-1 at the bet365 Stadium but were held to a goalless draw at the Etihad.

Prediction:

Manchester City are flying high in this moment whereas Stoke City regained some confidence after beating Southampton. Mark Hughes knows his side can pull off an upset just like their encounters with Manchester United and Arsenal. But Stoke City would find it very hard to stop a thrashing considering the kind of form Guardiola’s men are going through. I will go with 4-0 in favour of Manchester City.
