After having plenty of time over the international break to ponder disappointing draws in their previous round, this weekend gives both sides a chance to get back on the winners’ board.
Lyon will have been disappointed with their start to the season, having so far only won three matches from their eight attempts. Frustrating them most will be their four draws so far, whether they have still to adapt to the loss of Lacazette, their top scorer from last season, is still to be decided. Not everything is bleak though, and several of Lyon’s new attacking players will be looking at an opportunity to have a go at Monaco’s underwhelming defence which has already conceded nine goals this season. If they can keep it tight at the back, Lyon will be hopeful for a victory in front of their home fans.
Monaco have been deadly so far away from home this season, having won three matches from four attempts, scoring nine goals in the process. It will be interesting to see how Monaco’s attack continues to develop as new striker Stevan Jovetic continues to embed himself into the side. The Montenegrin has started brightly scoring four goals already in only a handful of matches and many will be watching with intrigue to see if his partnership with the prolific Falcao continues to be so symbiotic. This weekend will probably continue with more of the same for the two strikers against a Lyon defence that has shipped 13 goals this season and will be without first-choice centre-back Marcelo after his red card in last round’s match against Angers.
