The three lions’ prospects for the upcoming 2018 FIFA world cup
Although England have managed to qualify for Russia with one game in hand , Gareth Southgate has a lot of work to do in the training ground if they are to have any chance of giving tough fight to the big boys. The current squad of players needs a bit of shuffling and I have made an analysis of how it should look come july 2018.
Probable squad :
GK : Butland , Pickford , Heaton
DEF : Walker , Clyne , Jones , Maguire , Stones , Keane , Rose , Bertrand
MID : Dier , Henderson , Delph , Winks , Alli , Loftus Cheek
FWD : Kane , Vardy , Carroll , Rashford , Sterling , Antonio
England’s main problems lies in their midfield and this could just be the time when the likes of Harry Winks and Loftus Cheek comes to the rescue. Harry Kane and the fullbacks forms the brighter side of this squad although they have a long way go. Joe Hart always has a mistake here and there and southgate must start accepting this from now on and try out Hart’s counterparts before the mega event. 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 would be best suited for England provided the resources available.
Raheem sterling , Harry kane and Marcus rashford would form a formidable front 3 with andy Carroll and Antonio forming a part of plan B in my opinion. The flexibility of Loftus Cheek would also play a big part as he can play both in central midfield as well in attack and now that he will get full match time at palace it will be difficult to ignore him given his potential.
In defence it’s probably time to part ways with the likes of Cahill and smalling and bring on the more exuberant Harry Maguire and Michael Keane to the big stage. Such decisions may change the fortune of the three lions in the upcoming world cup to be held in russia next year.
