Sevilla vs Malaga Match Review
Sevilla thump bottom-placed Malaga
Bottom placed Malaga were completely outclassed by a dominant display of possession football from Sevilla at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium this weekend as Sevilla walked away with a 2-0 victory. The home side now enjoy a substantial lead over title-contenders Valencia, Atletico Madrid and defending champions Real Madrid.
Sevilla dominated the first half but could not capitalize enough to see themselves a goal. Starting the second half at stalemate, the home side were given a golden opportunity to take the lead as Joaquin Correa was fouled by Malaga right back Roberto Rosales in the 67th minute. Re-signed by Sevilla after a year of his sale to Inter, Ever Banega made no mistake in converting the spot kick with a right footed effort dispatched towards the bottom right corner of the goal.
One more goal followed just minutes after the penalty, in the 70th minute as Columbian forward Luis Muriel scored his second goal of the campaign thanks to a right footed bullet beaming into the bottom right corner.
Malaga have their work cut out now as continued dismal performances could see them relegated at the end of season. The Boquerones next welcome Leganes to the La Rosaleda Stadium on the 15th of October while high flying Sevilla will look to continue their winning form when they travel to Bilbao to face Athletic next game-week.
