Match Review: Besiktas vs RB Leipzig
RB Leipzig suffered yet another set-back this season after a glorious entry to the European top flight last year when they finished 2nd, below champions Bayern Munich. The German side lost 2-0 away to a high-flying Besiktas side in their Champions League encounter at the Vodafone arena last match day in Instanbul in spite of enjoying a majority of possession. The Turkish side now sit at the pinnacle of the dubbed ‘Group of Death’ Group G, surprising quite a few as they sit on top of FC Porto, AS Monaco and RB Leipzig.
Ex-Liverpool man Ryan Babel made an early breakthrough for the home side as he converted a golden chance inside the box via a Tosun assist. In an extraordinary occurrence in modern football, Leipzig hitman Timo Werner was substituted in the 32nd minute as it was reported that the German international was feeling uncomfortable in the noisy stadium and was unable to continue on the pitch.
Besiktas doubled thier lead right before half-time when danger-man Quaresma’s cross reached Talisca who perfectly converted the air-ball using his head leaving no chance for Leipzig goalie Gulacsi to be able to stop it.
Things do not look good for Leipzig at this stage as they languish at the 6th spot in Bundesliga table and will be hoping for a revival in form to be able to finish in the top-4 atleast. Leipzig next travel to face 1.FC Koln on Sunday while Besiktas welcome Trabzonspor for match-day 7 in the Turkish football league.
