Atletico Madrid vs Sevilla Match Review
Sevilla were completely left stunned at the newly opened Wanda Metropolitano when Athletico Madrid defeated them 2-0. In front of a capacity crowd, second half strikes from Yannick Carrasco (46’) and Antoine Griezmann (69’) were enough to push Sevilla to the third spot on the La Liga standings.
In a game which began with Sevilla ahead of Athletico on the points table, the visiting team controlled the whole match with a superior possession percentage but no shots on target which eventually lead to their loss. Both the teams were successful in hitting the woodwork in the first half but could not capitalize any further until Athletico fully dominated the second half.
Yannick Carrasco made full use of a Steven N’Zonzi mistake early in the second half when Saul’s through ball into the box was poorly intercepted by the French international and the Athletico man dribbled his way through the defence to guide the ball into an empty net. Carrasco was shown a yellow card for jumping into the stands to celebrate.
The game then dwelled into Athletico’s hands when Athletico star Antoine Greizmann doubled the score-sheet to score his second goal of the campaign. Griezmann made a terrific run into the box and a brilliant pass-play between Carrasco, Filipe Luis and himself needed just a tap-in for the Frenchman to score a rather simple goal.
Sevilla’s next test lies in facing Maribor at home while Athletico Madrid welcome Chelsea on the 28th of September for the Champion’s League.
