Red devils wishing for feast of goals when they lock horns with Southampton in a quest to regain top place.
Two clubs from Manchester are currently displaying sheer piece of brilliance and had taken early attention for the premier league title. Both city and United are carrying same points and even goal difference in their sack ahead Matchday six. City had scored 16 goals and concided only two, same respect with the red half of Manchester. Both the sides were quite exciting to watch as they prepare for yet another match to resemble their dominance over fellow runners for the title.Other challengers like Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal are breathing on their shoulders so it is necessary to keep rotating the points on the board to their name.So the fight is to be taken seriously now.
While Manchester City take on dejected Crystal Palace at Etihad, United are away to St Mary’s to face Southampton. Mourinho is planning to dig up more three points in this fixture and also multiply their goal difference to snatch back the first place which they lost to arch rivals City last weekend.
Host Southampton gain total points to their visit to Selhurst park with a 1-0 business win over struggling Crystal Palace. Steven Davis struck just six minutes after Kickoff for game’s only goal. Palace attackers also not made descent enough chances to score but still Fraser Foster had to make a couple of good saves to cement the lead. Mauricio Pellegrino will hopefully keep a close eye on defensive worries before they face the United express, loving to run on any tracks in England. Virgil Van Djik made his first appearance of the season last weekend after an intense speculation in the summer. His addition can be a great boost for the saints but it is still left to see whether he will show his hundred percent position on the pitch after all he is still playing at a club which he wanted to move from. Captain Yoshida may turn to be an important factor in the defense while he is also renounced to score goals from set pieces.
Problems remain at the front line too. Southampton had struggled to score from or convert their chances into goals on three occasions. They drew goalless with Swansea and Huddersfield and lost to Watford without scoring. Even the win they took in 3-2 victory over West Ham & 1-0 versus Palace was not to be pleased about. Now they face United already rocking in the Premier league. Pellegrino believes that even in such a tough battle his team contain the quality to give hardship to the visitors.
It is wait to watch what Southampton produced against Mourinho’s United but it is extremely hard to crush down a team containing strong determination and strong belief. The words of praise are really to roar once again for the away side. With that phenomenal start to the campaign, United have demolished its opponents scoring four in three which include a 4-0 hammering of Everton last weekend in a game where Wayne Rooney returned to Old Trafford. The lethal artillery in the form of Romelu Lukaku is taking the headlines now. He already bagged five goals of 16 that United pushed inside the net. He has also scored in four of the five games which symbolizes his goal hungry attitude. Mkhitariyan is another man who took up full responsibility to provide the passes for United forwards to score, registering 9 assists in the process. United also showed that they can trust on Marouine Fellani who was given the first start instead of injured Pogba, played well in the midfield. The Red devils are also favour in pouncing late which they often did so terrifically in last series of games. They also wrapped a fine win in the midweek home to Burton in the Carabao cup.
However, they do carry a stalemate in the last away fixture in the league which they drawn 2-2 facing Stoke at Britannia stadium. Though United were focused entirely on the Basel game for the Champions league at Old Trafford that time.
Southampton drew 0-0 with United in the last visit to the ground but then also circumstances were different. United were preparing for the Europa league finals which they won defeating Ajax to book their place directly in this season’s Champions league. They met again for the third time at Wembley Stadium for the final of league cup which they lost 3-2 with head high performance. Zlatan Ibrahimovic netted the opener as well as the winner in that fixture.
Paul Pogba is weeks out of action due to the hamstring pull he suffered in the Champions league outing with Basel at home. Either Fellani or Herrera will replace him alongside Matic.
Daily Blind will start at the left back role instead of Young while tug of war remains between Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford for starting berth. But it is likely that the latter will be placed in the opening eleven.
Pellegrino may start Van Djik unlikely so but the main concern will be up front as confusation remain for the center forward role with the question who to start? Shane long or Gabbiadini.
Southampton starting XI: Foster; Soares, Stephens, Yoshida, Bertrand; Romeu, Lemina; Tadic, Davis, Redmond; Gabbiadini
Manchester United starting XI: De Gea; Valencia, Bailly, Jones, Young; Fellaini, Matic; Mata, Mkhitaryan, Rashford; Lukaku
