Match Preview

Monaco put their trouncing by Nice behind them effectively last week by thoroughly putting newly-promoted Strasbourg to the sword. Falcao continued his great start to the season by scoring two, albeit one offside, goals taking his overall tally this campaign to seven. Monaco have had a strong start to the season, buoyed by Falcao’s aforementioned goal scoring run, they have the league’s second best attack having scored 17 goals so far this campaign. Given their large squad, focus this week will start to be upon how Jardim chooses to rotate his squad, if at all, with plenty of young players looking to get an increased game time for a side that has become famous for developing players.

Lille looked like a promising bet to be one of the league’s most exciting sides to watch this season. His team however, have taken longer than envisaged and as a result they sit in lowly 17th place, having only scored 4 goals so far this campaign; after winning the first match against Nantes, they have now not won in any of the five since. Having suffered a demoralising 1-0 loss last week to EA Gunigamp, they will be looking to get a morale boost with a win against an in-form Monaco.

Lille will be hoping Bielsa’s high tempo football will start to see the team getting more out of exciting young players Nicolas Pepe and Ezequiel Ponce, who as yet have not lived up to their promise.
