Champions League 2018/19 final venue confirmed
Wanda Metropolitano wins the right to host the Champions League 2018/19 final.
UEFA have today confirmed that Atletico Madrid’s newly built stadium Wanda Metropolitano will host the final of UEFA Champions League 2018/19. Wanda Metropolitano has beaten off competition from the Olympic Stadium in Baku.
Earlier Wanda Metropolitano faced a huge setback as UEFA’s report on the stadium wasn’t totally satisfying. One of the major concerns of UEFA about the stadium was that the stadium facilities do not contain enough hospitality space for the sponsors, while another downside is the media requirements as there is no space for a press entrance inside the stadium. UEFA also considered the cost of renting the venue expensive.
All that means Baku stadium(Capacity – 70,000) had the upper hand in this case. But finally the European football governing body have decided to host the much coveted final to the Wanda Metropolitano(Capacity – 68,000). Baku Stadium, on the other hand, will host the 2018/19 Europa League final.
