La Liga Match Preview: FC Barcelona vs SD Eibar

0 60

FC Barcelona will be aiming to record a sixth win on the bounce when they welcome SD Eibar at the Camp Nou on Tuesday.

The Blaugrana followed up their excellent start to the domestic league and Champions League campaign with a narrow 2-1 win over Getafe on Saturday, courtesy of a late Paulinho winner.

The Blaugrana fell behind at Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Perez and lost Ousmane Dembele to a serious injury but a late Paulinho winner delivered the three points and saw them record their fourth league win out of four. They face another quick turnaround ahead of Tuesday night’s return to Camp Nou to face Eibar.

They return to Camp Nou having scored 14 goals and conceded just once in their five games since the Supercopa de Espana defeat to Real Madrid.

Match Preview :-

FC Barcelona :- Barcelona picked up another three points at the weekend but it was their most hard-fought victory of the season as they came from behind to win 2-1 at newly promoted Getafe. An injury to record signing Ousmane Dembele, who could be out until the new year, was another significant blow and it’ll be interesting to see how Ernesto Valverde approaches this with some rotation likely, given the number of games they have coming up. The wobbly and unkempt Getafe pitch helped the Getafe team to keep Barcelona on their toes but as the action shifts to Camp Nou on Tuesday, we can again expect a majestic display from the Blaugrana. Barcelona bossed possession throughout the match against Getafe but struggled to get past their well organised defence.

The loss of Dembele is a blow but with Messi and Luis Suarez fit, they still have a destructive front-line and they have scored 8 times in their last 2 home matches, against stronger opponents than Eibar. Ernesto Valverde’s side have conceded just one goal along the way and face a visiting side that has won two and lost two of its opening fixtures. There is nothing they can do about Dembele for now but a home match against Eibar, a club overachieving massively by their mere presence in this division alone, would seem a good opportunity to lean on their squad depth and get Suarez back on the scoresheet. While Valverde has been reluctant to rotate, he could make changes as he seeks a fifth consecutive La Liga win against a side Barca beat 4-2 at the Camp Nou last season. The manager certainly has decisions to make with Dembele out, Suarez struggling for form and the team in the midst of a busy run and players potentially in need of a rest. Valverde does have plenty of top-quality options at his disposal and whatever team he does put out, it should still be strong enough to beat an Eibar side who have already lost to Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao.

SD Eibar :- It’s worth noting that Eibar may also consider a few changes in an attempt to keep players fresh for a home game against Celta Vigo at the weekend, where they have a far greater chance of collecting points. They are yet to avoid defeat against Barcelona since winning promotion to the top flight in 2014 so it’s more in hope than expectation that they head to the Catalan capital.

They’ve recorded two wins and two defeats so far this season but were pretty comprehensively beaten 3-0 in their toughest fixture, away to Sevilla. That doesn’t bode well for them as far as this game is concerned but they can take heart from having led to 2-0 with an hour on the clock during their visit to Camp Nou in May. Barcelona came roaring back to win 4-2 that day and they showed a fair deal of fighting spirit to win at Getafe.

Team News :-

FC Barcelona :- Barça will be without Ousmane Dembele for up to four months after the young Frenchman suffered a thigh injury against Getafe. Rafinha is also out and the midfield trident of Busquets, Andres Iniesta and Ivan Rakitic could be in line for a rest following impressive performances by Sergi Roberto, Denis Suarez and Paulinho on Saturday.

SD Eibar :- Eibar are missing goalkeeper Yoel and midfielders Fran Rico, Pedro Leon and Ivan Alejo, all of whom have knee injuries. Ivan Ramis could return, however, after missing the weekend match against Leganes with a knock.
