East Bengal lock horns against Tollygunge Agragami in their eighth match in the Calcutta Football League (CFL) on Tuesday at their home ground. After a disappointing draw in the mini-derby against Mohammedan Sporting last Saturday, the Red and Golds will be desperate to register a win before the Kolkata Derby. The pressure will be on for East Bengal in today’s match as their arch rival Mohun Bagan had won against Peerless yesterday with a 2-1 margin and went on the top of the table with 22 points in their 8 outings. East Bengal are sitting just behind them with 19 points in their 7 matches so far. If East Bengal win this match today they will have same points but East Bengal will go to the top the table having better goal difference. Khalid Jamil will be very much eager to have this advantage over Mohun Bagan ahead of the mega Derby on Sunday.

The Red and Golds’ six-match winning streak came to an end against the Black Panthers after the Kolkata giants were held to a 2-2 draw at Kalyani. The draw pointed out several mistakes in the East Bengal side, especially in the backline.

Central defenders Arnab Mondal and Carlyle Mitchell failed to perform as per expectations and their vulnerability in front of the goal was exposed several times by the Mohammedan attackers. Jamil needs to fix the defensive woes as soon as possible in order to win their eighth consecutive CFL title.

East Bengal are up against a side which is managed by legendary Indian coach Subhash Bhowmick. Even though Agragami have not preformed all that well, they have the quality on their side to create an upset at a crucial juncture in the league.

The good news for East Bengal is that striker Willis Plaza finally found his goalscoring boots against Mohammedan on Saturday. The Trinidad and Tobago international scored the equalising goal for his team in the 87th minute to ensure that his team did not return empty-handed.

Match Details:

Date : Tuesday, September 19.
Time : 14:45 IST
Venue : East Bengal Home Ground, Maidan.
TV Brodcast : Kolkata TV.

Team News :

East Bengal : Khalid Jamil is likely to experiment a bit in the front line. With Joby Justin failing to impress in the previous match, the coach might give Gabriel Fernandes a start alongside Plaza.

VP Suhair is a long term absentee for East Bengal now. Samad Ali Mullick is suspended in this match due to two yellow cards. Salam will start in his place.

Possible East Bengal Starting XI :
Barreto (GK), Chullova, Mitchell, Arnab, Salam Ranjan, Rafique, Lobo, Brandon, Al Amna, Gabriel, Plaza.

Tollygunge Agragami : Subhas Bhowmick is an experienced coach in the Indian football. He had played for East Bengal in his playing days and also coached East Bengal to give them the International success of Asian Cup. He will try to block East Bengal attacks as much as possible. A draw will be a fine result for them and it could create a huge impact in the Kolkata Premier League points table scenario. Antoni Wollf and Chikawalia are two experienced foreigners for them who had played in this pressure situation match previously. Tollygunge Agragami had already out of the contest of relegation zone. So they have nothing to lose and will play in free mind with the hope to get a point from this match for the sake of their pride.

My Score Prediction :
East Bengal 3-1 Tollygunge Agragami.
