Mauricio Pochettino’s team were held at the weekend, but our tipster is backing the hosts to win comfortably against the Tykes at Wembley on Tuesday.

Tottenham Hotspur are still searching for their first domestic win of the season at Wembley after enduring a frustrating 90 minutes against stuffy Swansea City on Saturday evening.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men had failed to win either of their first two matches of the season at their temporary home but, after a thrilling 3-1 win against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League at the venue on Wednesday night, expectation was high that the north Londoners would continue their fine form by seeing off Paul Clement’s Swans.

Spurs, though, could find no way through and, instead, the match ended in a goalless draw – a bitter disappointment for Pochettino’s team; with that in mind, Tottenham will be determined to make an immediate return to winning ways when they welcome Barnsley to Wembley in the third round of the League Cup on Tuesday night.

Team news :

Tottenham Hotspur : Mauricio Pochettino is expected to rotate his squad for the lower priority cup competition, though injuries and a lack of squad depth could see a mix of experience and youth. Michel Vorm will almost certainly line up in goal, while summer addition Juan Foyth could be afforded a debut alongside an experienced first-teamer. Kyle Walker-Peters will hope to add to his man-of-the-match performance against Newcastle of over a month ago. Youth prospects Shayon Harrison, Kazaiah Sterling and Marcus Edwards could feature off the bench.

Tottenham XI: Vorm; Walker-Peters, Foyth, Vertonghen, Davies; Sissoko, Winks, Dier; Dele, Llorente, Son.

Barnsley : Barnsley will try to match the stoic showing of Swansea City but the Championship club look likely to come up short and, indeed, Heckingbottom’s men may well struggle to make much of an impact in the final third, for Spurs have conceded just one goal in their last three games.
